Pornographyisactingasa‘gateway’tochildsexualabusewithoneinfiveBritonswhowatchadultfilmsnowviewingmore‘aggressiveorextreme’content,achildprotectioncharityhaswarned.
TheLucyFaithfullFoundation’sstarkwarningcomesafteritsresearchfoundthatincreasingpornconsumptionamongBritonsisoneofthemostcommonroutestosexoffending.
Thecharitysaid275,000peoplewithconcernsabouttheirownorsomebodyelse’ssexualbehaviourtowardschildrensoughtitssupportlastyear–anincreaseof26percentsince2023.
Morethanaquarterofthe3,400peoplewhocontactedtheirhelplinehavingalreadyoffended,orwhowereatriskofdoingso,admittedtohaving‘aproblemwithporn’,withthecharityaddingthetruenumberislikelytobeevenhigher.
